Default Essex and Essex Junction tax increase?

Does anyone know if the numbers listed in the paper Burlington Free Press.com | Top Stories are before or after the Homestead Declaration tax adjustment?

I saw that. Pretty crazy! One thing I've learned though is never believe what you read in the paper. Give the town offices a call to double check the info.

Good idea. We plan to buy our first home in that area once we have moved and rent for a year or so.

Well, I was in Essex this morning running errands and I can tell you prople are not to all pleased. Whatever the town clerk tells you the fact is your taxes are rising at a much faster rate than inflation and wages. I don't know what the difference in Essex is between a homestead vs a non-homestead declaration rate, but in my town the homestead rate is higher. Seems not a week goes by without reports from throughout the state regarding double digit increases of this, that, and the other. Last week it was Rutland with water/sewer going up 15% less than a year after they had raised it by over 20% two years in a row.
