I remember reading over the years a few recommendations for self packing pods and moving companies...did a quick search and didn't come up with specifics, but I'll be honest that I'm crunched for time and didn't have a chance to go through every thread. In any event, barring any unforeseen problems, looks like we will be heading up sometime next month. I'm all for renting a truck and bringing everything up ourselves, but apparently I'm the only one on that boat. Anyone have any recommendations for moving companies or self packing pod like services? Going from NYC to the Waterbury area if it matters...I'm checking down here as well but wanted to put feelers out everywhere. Thanks!

I have never used this company but might be worth a call:

are you moving here full time???

I got a few quotes and it was just too much for me ($2k minimum for full service). By accident I filled out some form on some website that gives multiple moving companies your info and was receiving phone calls for 2 weeks non stop all hours of the day including sunday and holidays so i got frustrated and didn't give anyone else a detailed list of our move

truck from uhaul for 3 days is 400 bucks.

Pods referred me to ABF (didn't service our areas).
ABF (www.upack.com) wouldn't do drop a box for our pick up / drop off locations (i just put in another request because that might have been like a year ago).

good luck!

I think I might drop if I actually say this out loud, but yes, we are moving up there full time. It's been years, YEARS of waiting for this, and the cards all seem to have finally fallen in place. I don't want to jinx anything though, lol.

I've gotten nothing but lectures about the truck route over the last week, but I keep arguing that it's the cheapest way. That being said, my fiancé might be traveling when we actually close on the house, and between packing the truck, driving it up there, closing on the house, work and figuring out where our two 100+lb dogs are going to be during all of this, I agreed to at least look into movers.

ABF does service where we are now, but we'd have to store the containers in Williston and then eventually pick stuff up from there, which would suck, but either way, we're going to have to put stuff in storage as we'll be staying in our condo for the time being and there's no way our stuff will fit in there. That quote was about $1200, plus monthly storage.

ABF was fine for us when we moved. I contacted a temp agency for laborers to help with the loading and unloading.

Waterbury area, huh? My old stompin' grounds. Not a bad area at all.
