Lamoille County is beautiful and diverse. Stowe is our favorite town there, we have a little vacation place and consider it to be our home away from home. Stowe is gorgeous, but has become pricey. I'm just glad we bought when we did (a LONG time ago).

Morrisville is a nice town, and benefits from being next to Stowe. The price of housing is a bit more reasonable, although I was just reading that their taxes may be going up. From what I am told from those who live there, while Stowe is very accepting to newcomers, Morrisville is more reserved. Personally, I have found nice people throughout both.

Johnson is also a nice town, very country and quaint. It is on the other side of Mt. Mansfield from Stowe, and the road closes in the winter. Very trecherous in the snow. This adds to the travel time because you must go around the mountain, so if you need to travel that way, something to keep in mind. Johnson is very affordable for that reason.

Although it is in Washington County, Waterbury is a lovely town next to Stowe. It is the home of Ben & Jerry's!

The best thing to do is to visit the area, find a local rental agent, tell them what you are looking for and they will point you in the right direction, as well as recommend another rental agent in a nearby town. Gotta do the legwork.
Good luck!

Stowe is beautiful, but expensive. Also, ALOT of tourists. You may want to look at Elmore. It is between Morrisville and Stowe. Morrisville I would not recommend. Waterbury is also nice. St. JOhnsbury or MOntpelier are also nice.
Good luck
