Where would you go to school in NJ and where in VT?
do you have anything going for you in nj other than the existing apartment and job?

I would most likely start with a community in college in both to then transfer to a university. And no its just the apartment and job that I have here. I was planning on saving up for a year and working two jobs to leave but it seems it might be best to just get my degree here and save up for 3 years to then make my move. I know what I want but it seems its not the best option for me right now. It seems the only difference would be a better enviroment than where I am which is good enough for me but I shall see what happens in a year from now.

Alys116 - you might consider an in-between and finish an associate degree, then apply for 4 year schools where you have options of better financal aid packages if your grades are good. Also, might consider some research on careers. I do not want to discourage you from teaching, but there are other professions that get you into school environments.... one (my field) social work is somethign to look at. It would still give you same (basically) schedule a your daughter. Also nursing is huge field and there are school nurses as an area to look at while your daughter is young.
