moving to vt./low skilled jobs
hello i am planning a move to Burlington. I am considered low skilled in america: GED, no college. Basic computing skills and general labor ability. What jobs are there in Burlington and surroundings for one like me. Any telemarketing call centers, assembly/warehouse, factory, food service, entry level stuff. I appreciate input.
Please dont laugh at my name, I hurt easily. sensitive fellow here

Just remember you'll be competing with people who have degrees (including masters) for those low skilled jobs. Good luck.

You can try the hospital Fletcher Allen Health Care | Academic Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont | Home. They have many low skill jobs available. Kitchen, security, ect. The new minimum wage at the hospital is now 10.00. Keep in mind you will need someone to have as a roommate at these wages. Burlington is not a cheap place to live(or the rest of Vermont for what it's worth).

You could try at IBM in Essex as they are hiring supplemental workers (3 year stint only). At least they give benefits. I think it comes out to something like 10-11 per hour. It would be hard to live on that unlless you're with someone else making money.

I worked highly technical support position for the largest university in
PA and the Pharmaceutical industry. When I got to VT., I worked next to
people who could not even speak proper english and would fight over the
radio station. I think employers in VT actually prefer less credentialed
individuals because they know the credentialed individual is going to leave
ASAP but the un-credential might actually last about 4 or 5 weeks before
they leave. Good luck.

Most of the jobs in the state are entry level positions.

Check out the airport screening jobs under the Transportation Security Agency. Business is booming in the homeland security biz. If you get a job as a screener, please don't ask me to take my shoes off .
