South Africa is a very multiracial country, so to say that your ex-wife is South African means nothing... she could be black, white, from India, etc.
And how much "cultural diversity" did you expect in a state that is 97% (or so) white?
Think before you post.

Vermont is indeed "prime for the picking." In fact, Burlington Chief of Police Gary Margolis once said that all the framework needed for gangs has already been laid in Vermont. Add to that our prime position for drugs & human trafficking (in between New York & Canada). As soon as some of the bigger gangs realize the potential, we could have a big gang problem.

It was in the Burlington Free Press last week that 9 Human Traffickers with ties in Vermont, Maine, & Canada were arrested.

The only gangs I here of are the gangs of hunters that drink beer and go hunting without orange colored clothing. I don't anything against hunting but idiots hunting is another thing. Just last week another local was shot dead hunting near dark without bright colored clothing. Why don't they learn?

This is outrageous. I have heard of this happening during hunting season.

Was this in the NEK?

Well, wearing orange is not required in Vermont. Hunters are supposed to be sure of their targets.

No, it wasn't in the NEK. It was about 25 minutes North of Burlington in Milton.

Terrible. So close to the city.

If the taxes don't kill you, the hunters will.

There is nothing wrong with recognizing that different cultures (not just ethnic) have preferences that are distinctly their own. Coming from a city that has a large African American, Hispanic, and growing Lebanese, Greek and Asian culture (what are the stats again for VT?) I witness every day the beauty of plural culturalism. This does not imply the absense of assimilation; just means that different cultures keep a little bit of what know and love. I can assure you that there is nothing socially unjust about this concept. If the majority of non-whites who I meet that have visited VT express that it is not their cup of tea, than I take that at face value rather than attempting to dissect it as if I have something to prove (or as if they are not capable of speaking their own truth). It is not racist, and I feel silly that I would even have to elaborate on this. I have just passed wind. My, what a lovely aroma.

It is not issue of the race it is more ignorance , old- fashioned Vermonter never experienced cultural diversity . Political correctness is not their stronger side , then on the top of the things Vermonter don't like changes and in the last twenty years Vermont changed for 180 degrees , housing was dirty cheep and people from Boston and NYC sold property there came here bought two or three times bigger houses had enough play money left to enjoy keeping status quo : low paid jobs, no industry and started complaining how this state doesn't look like Mass . or NYC next was demand we want more Police and Fire /EMT , demand for Civil service jobs caused property tax increase ( nothing else to be taxed) Farming went belly up from 1000 farms in 1995 to hardly 200 in 2006 year . and than " Eureka" Federal Government will sub. our expenses if we hire enough minority's , and native Vermonter felt cheated out of job which he is entitled to ,even if he is less capable than minority candidate . You know I couldn't believe my own ears when I heard first time somebody using N word in the public during conversation when I warned person that somebody could misunderstand him He told me : "What's problem , those people calling themselves N....?!! Old fashioned Vermonter
