We've just received a job offer in Windsor town. Could anyone give us recommendations of towns to look for a rental house within a 30-45 minute radius? We are a large family so 'cheaper' areas would be ideal. Thanks in advance =)

Are schools a concern?

The kids will be in school so we'd prefer a smaller school.
Thank you Chad, for your response.

Good luck with your move. We lived in Windsor village for 7 months about 10 years ago. It is a cute little village and we liked our stay. Unfortunately you are in an area where the cost of housing is high (Hanover/Dartmouth College) and Springfield has one of the, if not THE, highest property taxes in the state. Yes, read this in a recent state of Vermont official page that listed the property taxes for all of the towns/cities. Springfield was right up there near the top. When I lived there a lot of people that I worked with went north to places like Fairlee or west on Rt 4. Sorry that I cannot be of more help.

I've lived in Windsor the last 14 years and seen it change a lot over the years, most of that change has been very positive. The schools have improved dramatically, crime is way down (the notorious "Block" has finally been properly rehabbed.) It's easy to get to Hanover, Lebanon, or West Lebanon where more of the jobs are. My wife rides the bus to her job at Dartmouth College, very handy.

However, I think if I were starting fresh, I'd look at Hartland, though it is more expensive then Windsor. It shares Exit 9 with Windsor, and has very good schools and school choice for high school (a great benefit). More of a rural, small town feel, nice folks, and a less transient population then Windsor. I'm a bit biased as we go to church in Hartland so we've become quite integrated with that community, moreso then Windsor despite actually living here.
