They aim for 70% or more of ingredients to come from within 70 miles of the diner. In other words, an authentic local eating experience. The made-from-scratch, made-to-order English muffins alone are worth traveling for!

We stopped there a year or so ago. I can't recall what we ordered -- but I do recall that the servings were generous and delicious and it is on my list for future trips through Quechee.

i hate to say it but blue benn's outside scared us off. i couldn't 't imagine a crazy wild 16 month old running around in such a small space. We looked around in bennington for a bit and couldn't find anything else that was even a possibility.

we did go to johnny's pancake house in Rutland. Not my favorite for pancakes. I am a bit picky

Wanted to point out that the farmers diner in Middlebury went out of business in the past year. I thought that was pretty decent.

Another vote for Up For Breakfast in Manchester. A bit small, a little pricey...but the food is first class. Read somewhere there are more items on the menu than chairs in the dining room.

Today's Rutland Herald reports that Clem's has closed without notice. Strange. It's been a Rutland Institution for years. Clem's Facebook update on Saturday gave no hint:

"
Good morning everyone; hope you all are having an absolutely wonderful start to your weekend. Make sure to stop by today for our homemade farmers' soup or homemade chili. Be sure to pair it with our homemade french bread or corn bread."

Clem's had moved from their previous spot on Wales Street (where Roots the Restaurant now operates) to the old Coffee Exchange/Wine Room space at Merchants Row and Center Street. So food many businesses have come and gone in that Merchants/Center space that my spouse and I joked about its being accursed.
