Default Route 7 - Best Diner/Breakfast Place?

My girlfriend and I will be driving up to Vermont at the end of next week. Staying in Manchester and looking for a good place to have breakfast on the drive up along Rt. 7. Suggestions?

MY wife LOVES the Blue Benn Diner in Bennington. I think it's on rt 7. It's hard to describe,..funky, gourmet, eclectic..I seem to remember it being in one of those cool old diner buildings.

Blue Benn Diner - Bennington, VT

I would definately second the Blue Benn, amazing array of comfort food and they even have veggie burgers for the vegiterarians out there. That's people from the planet veggie. It's on Rt 7 as your heading north out of Bennington on the left just past the Subway. There is also a state welcome center just past that on the right.

In Rutland on Rt 7 the Midway Diner is awesome too. The Blue Benn is pretty small so you might have to wait a few minutes, the Midway is pretty large and roomy.

The above listed places are great. I'll add one more from experience. About 2 miles or so east on Vt 103 from US Rte 7 is a place called the Whistlestop in an old railroad station. I don't know their winter hours, but hiking the AT/LT through there in the summer and fall I always stopped there and the food was pretty good at a reasonable price. Then again, when you are out hiking any prepared food is a luxury.

I like the Blue Benn also. It's like an old fashion greasy spoon type of diner.
If you can make it all the way to Manchester 'Up For Breakfast' on 7a is better. We just moved to Manchester from NJ 2 weeks ago and discovered it this past Sunday. It's top notch.

Default Famers Diner in Quechee

Okay, it's not on Route 7. But you can get there from here. The Farmers Diner on Route 4 in Quechee (Welcome to the Farmers Diner, local food from local farms) just east of Woodstock is a special treat. They aim for 70% or more of ingredients to come from within 70 miles of the diner. In other words, an authentic local eating experience. The made-from-scratch, made-to-order English muffins alone are worth traveling for!

If you get to Lebanon, go to the Four Aces. As I have been told, it's where 'the locals eat' (it's interesting...I'll leave it at that). But the food is good!

If you like tourist traps Route 4 is for you, either in Quechee or keep going to Woodstock. We were there after Thanksgiving and the 'cafe' in the town of Woodstock (can't recall the name) was unable to handle the business and we walked out after a waitress had an argument with a patron.
