Have not read all 6 pages of this, but frankly I would worry more about the weather driving you back vs. the culture. As others have said if you respect the local culture and work a little bit to fit in, you and your family should be fine. But are you prepared for the climate? The NEK and Northern VT is not the South no matter how high up in the Mountains you get down there. Figure out what you will think of Nov to April - you really need to be prepared for what you will experience these months or you will move back after a couple of cycles.
