Sox and Yankees are a toss up, however I do see more Sox attire and stickers than I do anything pinstriped.

The mixing of teams here is common, and quite unusual compared to anywhere else. You see LOTS of Red Sox fans who dont like the Patriots but like the Giants. Yankees mixed with patriots. I saw a kid with a Red Sox jersey and Colts hat on one time. If you went to Boston (or Mass in general) with a Sox jersey and a Colts or Giants hat, you would get shot lol. Same thing if you showed up for a Rangers game with a Red Sox hat on. (Another strange combo ive seen). I personally see WAY more Canadiens than Bruins fans, and way more Giants than Pats. Sox and Yanks are a wash. And noone follows basketball up here it seems at all. Could be a racial component to that one

Red socks maybe but refreshingly I hear very very little about mainstream sports I hear more about what local was in the olympics... or on ESPN, at the Nationals of whatever sport... winning regional bike races, etc.

Ive also noticed people in general here arent that into sports, and the ones who are, arent very passionate about them. I notice that with alot of things in Vt, even stuff like decorating for holidays. People just arent enthusiastic with stuff like that

Racial component -- really? smh

Lots of white NBA fans throughout New England and I'm wagering college basketball has a strong following, too. White basketball fans seem less likely to wear team logo merchandise or place the team stickers on vehicles--something I've observed in both VT and in Knicks/Nets territory on Long Island.

I tend to think that the fact that the closest professional teams being many hours away in Boston, NYC, or Toronto plays more into the perceived lack of basketball popularity in VT than race. The Celtics are 3+ hours from Burlington, as are the Bruins yet you've personally noted seeing more Canadiens fans. Obviously race in hockey isn't a factor -- could it be that Montreal is a little under 100 miles from Burlington?

As for Sox vs. Yankees, many of us flatlanders brought that in with us, probably skewing things.

Did you conduct a door-to-door survey or are you assuming this?
