I can't post the video, but my cousin caught it with his cell phone. It was being flown on state street yesterday, the cop controlling it wasn't making any attempt to hide it. Small one. Could go into someone's backyard or look into a window easily. What a police state being created in Rutland.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Saves endangering and officer while helping him cover more area. It also makes it pretty obvious that privacy is a fond memory. If you are really worried pull the curtains or do your dope deals in a closed garage.

They can also fly into schools and buildings and look for bad guys with guns who are murderering people. Case law already exists to show that police cannot enter your property and look in your window "just because." Pull down your blinds.

Unless he was flying it for personal entertainment, it was illegal. The FAA has not allowed ANY use of drones outside of that use. With the Rutland police, I'm not surprised that they don't care.

Some people value privacy and don't care for this sort of high tech Orwellian police state.

We're also talking about a police department where the officers were watching child porn in the police station a while back.

You are incorrect. The FAA has approved a number of depts to operate drones.

This reminds me of the SciFi TV show "Dark Angel" set in a militarized totalitarian world where the "security drones" were armed with machine guns.

They'll be flying those eventually, our cops are becoming more and more of a military than a civilian force. I'm sure this drone in Rutland was being flown to see the public reaction.

They need authorization from the FAA. I haven't seen any evidence Rutland got that.

I never said they did. That does not invalidate my post. Nor do the police need FAA permission if they are operating said aerial vehicles under the FAA's enumerated restrictions.
