TMA=trail maintenance assessment. Basically a trail pass. VAST ignores me. I contacted them when they were talking about discontinuing the discounted TMA for older sleds. They ignored me and others who said we wouldn't buy a TMA for our older machines that see little use if they did. They discontinued that and saw another big drop in membership. They have basically boxed themselves in and can't think outside the box.

From my experience with VAST, the local club we were forced to join in order to ride the "over 4000 miles of Vermont trails" that the state advertises was basically a close group of core members like any club but as AH stated, theya re set in their ways and they don't really seem to care what their core users would like.

Here's the real thing they are missing.....VT states that snowmobilers bring in $350-500M in revenue to the state in a good season from hotels, restaurants, gas stations, liquor stores etc. that is revenue from non-residents traveling to dump their cash in the state to ride the trails. That core group of internally focused individuals is not spending any more $ than they normally do.....they friggin' live in the state and are locals which means their spending is not incremental spending or tourist $. So catering their bylaws, rules etc. to themselves they have basically alienated the owners of the $350M+

New Hampshire and Maine have basically cashed in with a more friendly fee structure and trail system.

Typical VT.....sometimes VT just can't get out of its own way.
