Here is the latest safest states ranking. Vermont made #1. My current state of Maine dropped to 2nd place. New Hampshire isn't far behind. either. Just goes to show that northern New England states are some of the safest in the nation.

New England usually tops the chart in all areas except good weather...that is if you don't like the winter...

Winter! Ahhhh! No black flies, horse flies, deer flies; or mosquitoes. If you're cold, you can warm up by moving more; in summer, if you're too hot, you can't cool off by staying still. No sunburn! No lawn work! No swimming pool service needed. Easier to cope with a sudden snow shower than a sudden rain shower. Snow beautifies everything except roads, driveways and sidewalks; can't say that about rain... Vistas you never imagined reveal themselves through the now-bare trees. Moose are much more easily avoided. Cyclists of all sorts are less of a hazard.

Of course, this is a minority view, but Vermont is known for its eccentrics.

aint enough moose left to worry about hitting anymore, but the slush once it freezes make all the potholes go away which is nice!

did you know that 89.93% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

I've gotten used to New England(especially Northern New England) doing well on these rankings.

We have invested in welfare, support, and mental healthcare services to a much larger extent than most other states. We pay high taxes and in exchange get a pretty good social contact, and a nice standard of living. That's the way it goes on most of New England I'm happy to say!

Vermont was one of the safest states well before we had any of that welfare, etc.
