Hi everyone,

I have a job interview over the phone soon. I will be up in June to check Vermont out. I've been looking at trip advisor and gathering all the information I can before making the commitment. I've read all the recent threads about Rutland, and still have a few questions.

How much will the income tax take from my pay?
How bad are those black flies? Are they similar to the biting horsefly-type things we have in Long Island?
Is there an apartment complex I can rent in? I'm a single woman moving there alone so safety is my highest concern.

I've literally been dreaming of moving to VT my whole life. I'm so excited that it's finally about to happen!

Welcome!

Rutland doesn't really have much for apartment complexes. You'll mostly find rentals in houses. Black flies never bothered me much for the most part. If you tell us more about your likes/dislikes and things you like to do, you'll get better suggestions. Plenty of small towns surrounding Rutland too for apartments.

Default Home hunting

How about cheap temporary places to stay? Any know of a good strategy for relocating there from a long distance without being able to commute first (in order to look for a place to stay)? I've done it in large cities, but usually stayed at a hostel or cheap hotel for a month when I first got there.

I've been thinking about it for a long time myself. Did you follow through? How'd it go?
