I'm a CT resident looking to relocate and one of the interesting facts I read about VT was that you can qualify to sit for the [law] Bar Exam after doing a legal apprenticeship at an attorney's office for 5 years (or 4?) and meeting certain other requirements. I attended law school here in CT but took a leave when my first of the children were born and don't forsee the ability to finance the legal education at this point so I was very interested in the alternative method of qualifying to take the Bar.
However, we did take a ride up to the southern part of VT (where we would be looking to move if at all possible) and the region seems so remote that finding a legal office to work for may be difficult, not to mention there may be no job openings at all. Also, any ideas of the future and current status of the legal profession in the state? Lawyers in CT are a dime a dozen and seems like there are too many, yet they all seem to stay in business and keep BUSY (and well paid too). This would not be our sole income, obviously, but I'm looking to become educated on all aspects on life up there (and the other places we are considering) before making ANY type of decision about relocation. Thank you.

I don't know about the southern part of the state, but a friend of mine went to Vermont Law School and is having a tough go of it finding a job in Central Vermont. I would call some of the law offices in the area of the state that intrests you and see what's available or if they can offer any advice.
