I had solar panels put on my house by RealGoods Solar. I have nothing but good things to say about them. Very professional and they did wonder work.

solar depends on subsidies or it does not make financial sense, so if no state credit why do it? especially there. Why?

The state credit wasn't all that much to be honest, I think maybe a couple grand, if that? The fed deduction is fairly large though.

And as I mentioned before, I am pleasantly surprised by how much we are producing. Made enough to get through the winter on credit.

it really depends on how states and utilities handle it

The state refund or credit went away but the prices have gone down, at the same time, our utility still credits us 34% more than they charge us for a 10 year period if I understand correctly which works out because it's basically a 10 year return.

Curious about solar since Glover just put in a large solar field and the panels are constantly covered with snow in winter. (At least car dealerships sweep off the cars.) I've heard the solar recovery rate in winter doesn't offset the cost of cleaning off the panels. I always wanted solar panels, but if the actual power companies don't think it worthwhile to remove snow, are they actually feasible in VT?

I'm not sure about large installations, but so far, the snow has fallen off our panels fairly quickly. Of course it's nowhere near as cold as it should be, and perhaps this also depends on roof pitch...

Peck Electric out of Middlebury? They are great. We used them when we built our addition.

I'm not entirely sure who ended up doing our electric, but it was three guys here in some of the colder weather last March. One was in the basement doing all the panel work, the other two on the roof. No complaints...cleaned up after themselves, did a nice neat job installing all the boxes, and they were super nice.
