This is only my second spring here in VT. Are we done with winter yet? Or has the past week just been an anomaly?

Last year at this time I still had quite a bit of snow in my yard.

It's reasonable to expect at least one freak snowfall between now and mid-April. It's not uncommon to find robins on snow-covered lawns this time of year.

An anomaly. My son's birthday is April 1, and I can only recall one year where his party could be held outdoors. Never plant anything before Memorial Day :-) Of course, with climate change, this year's weather could be the new normal.

I suppose it depends on what you consider bad weather. My friends who live on dirt roads are finding that the really bad conditions are only starting.

In general winter goes all the way through March, with some predictable winter weather in April. This hasn't been a normal winter, but don't take your snow tires off yet. I can also remember snow or very cold weather on Mothers' Day.

Living in the Upper Valley in the late 1980s and early 1990s, there was almost always a snowstorm in mid-April, just when you thought winter was over... often it was after maple leaf buds had opened. And when we moved to Burlington on April 26 (?), 2010, it snowed an inch. When we moved from Burlington in the last week of April, 2011, it snowed a skiff of snow - though that said, the 2010-2011 winter was one for the record books - as was last winter, of course.

The weather is bizarre. but who knows, if the trend for the whole year continues, it's possible we never see more than another couple inches here or there.

Post in the weather forum about a possible big dump next week...though there's been a lot of those posts this winter that have resulted in nothing.

I could do without the snow now. I have too much work to get done and the snow will soon melt anyways. A lot of the VAST trails have already been gated and signs pulled. I want the ice to melt and snow will slow that down.

The bad weather doesn't start until June.
