Default Where to go in Vermont?

Hello, I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on areas to check into for a second home. I have been to Killington, Stowe, Sugarbush, Stratton when I was younger and am kind of familiar with them. What I am looking to do is purchase a place in a ski town that is relatively close to an airport as this will not be my main residence? What areas should I check into? Do commercial flights go into Stowe? I am not sure how far away the Burlington airport is to any of the places listed above.

Please let me know your thoughts and thanks in advance for your feedback.

Waterbury....20 miles (or so) to the airport in Burlington. Stowe is 20 minutes, Sugarbush 1/2 hour. I am not a realtor, but I know of a condo that may be coming up for sale.

Maybe I go the wrong way, but I'd say Waterbury is a good 40 minutes to the airport. Stowe close to an hour. Sugarbush more than an hour.

Waterbury is 20 minutes away from the Airport at 3am if you're driving a Lotus Elise Turbo after the frost heaves have settled out a bit

I'm cutting and pasting a message from a Piper forum (Piper Owner Society Forums :: Travel :: fly & ski in the northeast)

"Martin,

Rutland, Vermont is a popular fly-in destination for skiing at Killington. Killington has good skiing, lots of restaurants, motels, transportation, etc. The airport has an ILS approach, 5000' runway and just about everything else that you need.

I have also flown into Morrisville Airport, which is very close to Stowe, Vermont. A much smaller airport, (3701') than Rutland, but excellent skiing. I don't think you can clear Customs in Morrisville.

I flew up to Miribel a few years ago to ski at Mont Treblant. The skiing was very good but the airport wasn't very convient for GA aircraft.(no 100LL)."

Waterbury to airport is 24.5 miles. 1/2 hour drive.

Waterbury to Stowe 10.4 miles

Waterbury to Waitsfield 12.4 miles

I ski and I fly out of Burlington on a regular basis.

I misread 20 miles as 20 minutes, oops! Thinking back I was also remembering that I'd drive in through S. Burlington from Waterbury Center which is a longer hike. My bad!

No one has mentioned Bolton Valley?

BTW, since the statute of limitations is long past, I once made a run from Waterbury to the Mary Fletcher in about 17 minutes in the dead of night, middle of winter. On Bolton Flats the Ford Wagon was up to 120.

Understand that the Interstate was fairly new then and in better shape, and hospital emergency rooms were no-wait care centers. My dad was on his 2-meter radio during the ride, and the gurney and staff were at the door for him as I drove up. You could live next door to a hospital now and have to wait longer to get care.

I can't say I would like to repeat the drive. Older, wiser, and all that.

Hi, Rutland Airport is a consideration and then you can look at Ludlow, Mt. Holly and Wallingford area since this would be considered "Okemo Mt. Resort area"; Rutland Airport is approximately 20 -25 mins to Okemo. You could also consider Ascutney/Weathersfield area (Ascutney Mt. Resort) and fly out of West Leb NH which is approx 20 mins from exit 8 of of 91 (same exit for Ascutney Resort). Hope that helps.

I live in Stowe (our second home) and we fly out of Burlington to catch International flights from NYC. It takes us about 40 min (give or take a few) to get to the airport, from Stowe. Once you're on the I89, the road takes you there quick.
I also find Burlington International is very efficient, and fast to get through - airport.
