Yay Arel! So glad to hear from you and that you are moving...we've had a couple of realtors come to give us estimates on what we can get for our home, but we won't be able to move til next year so I'm still waiting...and waiting...
I hope your home sells quickly and you can make it up in time to enjoy some of summer!

This is to GypsySoul22: You lost your housemate to Houston, while I here in Houston, have a son who just moved to Vermont! That will help keep Vermont's population a bit stable, won't it? LOL
As I sit here in Houston, sweltering in the HOT early morning sun, I so envy your clear, cool mornings that my son calls and raves about. It sounds like Houston in February to me. I can't wait to visit and find out what Vermont is all about.

That's funny. I was just sitting here (in Vermont) thinking about how I'm so sick of being cold. It's already June and we've only had a handfull of sunny, warm days. I wish I was sitting in the hot, sweltering sun, because then I'd go get my bathing suit and go swimming! Last summer we crossed our fingers everyday during July & August hoping that the temperature would be high enough to go swimming. I guess the grass always looks greener somewhere else.

How does high 80's f sound for Thursday through the weekend - nearly 90 on Friday? Sweltering weather for the rest of the BDJF....
Enjoy...

How traumatized are newcomers to Vermont when they experience their first Vermont winter?
GypsySoul22, do you plan to stay in Vermont or do you plan to go somewhere else altogether?

I have so far been disappointed by the offers I have received. If I don't get a good offer in my exclusive listing, I will go on the MLS. If I still don't get a decent offer, I may wait until next year and hopefully the prices will be better. But there is talk that the prices will not go back up for a number of years, if ever. And that is time that cannot be replaced.
But I dread the thought of selling and then learning that I could have gotten a bundle more if only I had waited.
Let's see what happens......

I would say initial winter experiences here are not necessarily bad, but for many the idealistic Currier and Ives Christmas card image comes and goes and then a deep funk sets in as you live through month after month of cold and gray days. I like winter and with my limited resources take advantage of doing as much as I can outdoors. I grew up in the northeast and spent twenty-two consecutive winters in Alaska, so I kind of had a good idea of what Vt winter is about. However, the cost of winter heating in a climate zone that runs between 7500 and 8000 HDD per year and the wear and tear it places on homes and cars is influencing me to research out more mild, yet still four season climes. Basically, if you dislike winter, I mean day to day living in winter not just visiting, then just from the climate apsect Vermont might not be your best choice. The summers are great, but for some it just might not be enough to recharge your soul to get through winter.

I doubt the market will improve for a couple of years, but certainly not at the overstated prices were experienced before the burst. I recently sold a few properties and in order to sell I reduced by 20%. Good luck.
