Smile Moving to Burlington in June 08 need advice

My husband accepted a job transfer to South Burlington at the Burlington Airport 3rd week in June 08 and need some advice on were to live. We have two girls one in High school and want to live near his work but far enough away to be away from the noise and college kids if it's a problem. We both commute 30-45 minutes each way daily and would like to reduce that alittle with the gas prices. We live in Michigan around Detroit so lots of snow and traffic we are used to but want to reduce time on the roads. We want to rent for the first year to give us time to look for a new home to live in, we rushed into buying once before and regretted it. Anyone have some good ideas were to live with affordable 3 bedroom home/townhome rentals rural is fine with us with good access to the airport? We don't want to spend over 1400 a month since renting is just throwing our money away. Thanks.

Luckily, the airport is very accessible from just about anywhere which is good.
South Burlington, where the airport is located, is a nice community. Lots of condos to choose from and good schools. South Burlington is more than Williston Rd & Shelburne Road!
You also might like to check out Essex and Colchester, which are also suburban with a good choice of housing types.
The more rural you get, the less chance of finding rentals. For more rural towns, I would suggest Hinesburg, Richmond, Jericho, and Underhill.
Check out the Burlington Free Press, Seven Days, and also call some realtors around the area.
Hope this helps and congrats on your move!

Thank you. We are concerned on traffic winter roads to work, but I assume since it's more suburbs that's the roads are pretty good in the winter. We will look at the paper online like you said and see what's out there and hopefully there is a few realtors online posting rentals. Seven day? Is that online?

I also work very close to the airport and I would like to add that the surrounding towns should not so to speak scare you away due to winter travel concerns. In my case I can use all back roads which now after three winters I can say are plowed well and due to much less traffic are a breeze on those snow and ice days when everyone else is on the main thoroughfares. Renting first is a very good choice and with luck you might get close to the airport. Vermont is known for a very tight housing market both for buying and renting so you will definately want to be able to look around a bit and get a good feel for the area before buying.

Default Essex townhome close to airport

We (family of 4) moved here last year. I was commuting Mon-Thurs, so spent a lot of time cabbing it to the airport 15 min away from our rented townhome in Essex. We're a stone's throw from Essex H.S., which is highly rated. We're moving to a home in Hinesburg midway through July and are paying $1750/month for a 2500 sq ft place on partially wooded land with a 2-car garage, though the landlord may come down some. Not sure if that works for you, but let me know if you want to know more.
