Default relocating

My wife & i want to move to vermont. We are both retired. from Ct. We do not want to live in a larger city. Our residence is now Calif. We do not like it at all. We are not big city people. Just looking for a small town. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Middlebury strikes me as being a great small town-though 'big' for Vermont with 8200 people. The state Capital at Montpelier is also a gem, with 8000 (the smallest state capital). Brandon has much charm, with 4000 residents.

For a funkier feel Brattleboro, in southern VT; pop. 12000 is a must to be considered. Woodstock (Pop 3230) and Hartford (White River Junction) are smaller still, but in a very pretty area. St. Albans is a nice town not far from the Canadian border.

I'm in the Chester/Andover area. It's certainly a small town (but not too small) with the quintessential village green, steepled churches and quaint old inns (ghosts included!)

Within the Village green area there's a decent library, a natural foods store, a good book store, a fabric shop for quilters. There's a town pool, tennis courts, baseball field, basketball courts in the village recreation center which is just off Rte 11 at Lovers Lane Rd.

You do have to drive into Springfield for grocery shopping. The hospital is in Springfield as well.

You'll be about 45 mins to Woodstock, 35 mins to Brattleboro, 30 mins to Manchester, and on a good day I've made it to White River Junction within an hour. Montpelier, Waterbury and Burlington are between 100-120 mins respectively.

Red face how often does it lightning/thunder in vermont

how often does it lightning/thunder in vermont???... basically looking for approximate # of days of storms per year or per summer and if any in winter too...maybe how long they last....
i am in florida, and from new york orig. and they are bad here in FL, one of the worst states!! likley round 60 days per year
...looking to know any info you can tell me about where might be the least of it in vermont which cities and any other helpful info-anyone can give ....considering moving there looks so beautiful, clean, fresh, 4 seasons, snow and so much more ... but more importantly trying to find a state w/ the least amt. of storms aside from CA and AZ
.... concerned too about the following things....lightning(obviously)and bugs, snakes, cell phone signal, which cities are sord of midsize type towns not completely rural area but not too built either just reg. mid-size or suburban town w/ great sceneries, nice yards and views, local shopping w/ in few miles and maybe even some basic areas of attraction w/ in 5-20 miles ...so....please if you could offer any interesting info. i see that so many people/ and this site itself seems very helpful ....hearing different views and things...so...thanks to anyone who can help !
