Lake Champlain Islands
Does anyone know anything about the Lake Champlain islands? Are they in Vermont or New York? Are the communities on the islands very insular and/or very exclusive? How do people get around? I don't think I would want to be dependent on a boat.
Nice place for a champ refuge.

I don't know a ton about them, but the major ones like Grand Isle are connected by bridges to the mainland. I believe all or most of the lake's islands are located in VT. I don't believe there are any high schools either. Students are bused to Burlington or perhaps other area towns.

The Lake Champlain Islands that are habited, are in in Vermont. The above poster is right, there is no high school. I know there are quite a few kids from the islands at South Burlington HS & Essex HS. Some choose to go to St. Albans, or the high school in Rouses Point, NY.
The islands are beautiful, and from what I understand, somewhat insular, especially the further north you go. South Hero is within commuting distance of Burlington, so there are quite a few folks who live there and do that.
Grand Isle is home to the ferry that takes you over to Plattsburgh, NY and in Alburgh is a bridge that takes you over to Rouses Point.
I really like the islands. We go camping at Grand Isle State Park which is nice.

No, just curious.
Maybe I'll move to Burlington someday, but right now I need to move to Brattleboro. One step at a time.
I haven't been to Burlington in years. Maybe one weekend I'll take the plane there from JFK just for the fun of it.
I don't know anyone in Burlington, but that's ok.

I guess you mean forum posters who live in Burlington. Right?
Before I come up to Burlington, I'll announce it in a post. Maybe I could meet some of you for coffee and a bagel. Then we could go to the lake and look for a champ.
Seriously, though, there's some stuff going on at UVM in my field, so even if I live in Brattleboro, I'd probably come up at times for seminars or related activities.
It's not out of the question, though, that I could eventually move to Burlington.

I'd be very happy to meet for coffee and a bagel - and while I can't promise to show you Champ, I'd enjoy showing you around!
