We LOVE Stowe. It's a safe and clean village, with charm like no other! My kids ski, ride bike (without being bumped off the road), hike, snowshoe in winter, swim in the rivers and under waterfalls. All this and more, within the boundaries of Stowe. It's a safe environment and a small community who look after one another. I like the casual feel of the town, and usually I can spot a out-of-town person a mile away. Vermonters (mostly) will stop in the middle of Rt 100 or Mountain Rd, to give you a gap when you need to make a turn-off. Go to Max groceries, and you feel like family. Same said for many establishments in Stowe. It's expensive in some ways, but it's a price we're prepared to pay to live in this unique village!

I have to say that the ambiance of Stowe (minus shops) can be found in many towns, Huntington is great for biking, skiing, swimming, and in Huntington there is NO traffic, yet it's within easy commuting to I89 and Burlington. The bike trail and Rte 100/108 in Stowe gets a lot of traffic for Vermont standards. Despite having been in Stowe quite a bit I never got that Mayberry Andy and Aunt Bee feeling, but I don't dispute that for folks coming to visit from outside Stowe can appear to be that way. Just want folks from outside the state coming up to be aware to check out the towns off the resort/tourist path.
