Default Waterbury Center

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what kind of town Waterbury Center is? I am specifically trying to find out abut McNeil Road. I am looking at a job in that town and I am wondering if I will need a car. I know that GMTA runs a bus to Waterbury, but I need to find out if there is a bus that runs on Mc Neil Road or if it has a sidewalk. Thanks for your help!

There is not much to Waterbury Center except for a convenience store and Cold Hollow Cider Mill. There is also some sort of optics manufacture on the hill next to Cold Hollow. Doubt there is any public transportation up that way but I would call the town of Waterbury as I am sure they would know. I think it's a nice area if you live off of Rt 100.

I think McNeil Rd is about a mile south of Waterbury Center just off Rt 100 across the road from the Cabot outlet store.

The GMTA does go right by McNeil Rd., and with the Cabot Annex nearby (less than a 5 minute walk) the bus may stop there. It does not however have a sidewalk.

Route

The route does not list a stop in that part of the Center, but I am sure you flag them down. I actually today walked from McNeil Rd., to Ben & Jerry's (about a mile and half) took about 20 minutes.

We operate the Mad Bus system in the winter which is under the umbrella of GMTA which is free for anybody to get around the valley and includes a loop to Montpelier for workers without cars.

The GMTA system is nothing like a bus line in a city, they are very flexible. As Vter mentioned you can flag them down and they will stop plus if your going to use it on a regular basis they will stop, at a safe place, anyday you need it just by calling them up.

Geeze, 76 years ago, you could have taken the trolley (Mt. Mansfield Electric Railroad.) :-)
It went right along that route. The road that angles off to the east, just south of McNeil Road, is where it veered off after going up along rte. 100. GrnMtnFire walked right by the ruins of the old battery house, off on the west side of the road by that roadsign near the little ledges.

You would have HATED VT 76 years ago. Vote Republican and 14 hours a day in field
and barn with your life controlled by the merchant caste who controlled the buisness
and banks you needed to keep doing it.
