Default Seeking job, rent and cultural info on Vermont towns

Hello,

I'm an ad writer looking to get out of New York City and into a liberal, small or mid sized town in Vermont with a lot of trees and grass.

The city needs to have some advertising agencies or other opportunities for a copywriter (University, marketing firm). Also, I'm considering making a move into the healing arts so a community of acupuncturists and at least one Reiki master would be great too.

OR if the city has none of the above---can one make a decent living working part time if one lives very frugally?

I'm looking to cut my rent substantially. I can live within 400 sq feet, but I don't want to pay more than $650 for it.

BIG BONUS IF THE CITY IS VERY TOLERANT AND HAS ARTS, IF NOT A MIX OF RACES, WHICH WOULD BE EVEN BETTER.

ARE THERE ANY TOWNS THAT MIGHT FIT THIS PROFILE IN VERMONT?

THANK YOU!

The biggest city is Burlington. Have you been to Vermont?

Our biggest city , as stated above, is Burlington. Population of about 40K, metro area 150K,maybe a little more.
Not sure what you could find for $650. Rents are very expensive in Burlington. For ideas on housing costs check out craigslist, Seven Days | Vermont's Independent Voice, or burlingtonfreepress.com | The Burlington Free Press | Burlington news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Burlington, Vermont
The local universities/colleges are the University of Vermont, Champlain College, St. Michael's College, Burlington College, and the Community College of Vermont. Hopefully I'm not forgetting one.
Vermont is one of the least diverse states in the nation. Burlington has some diveristy, but not a lot. The arts are very popular here.
Can't really help with your other questions, but read through the SEven Days website-you might be able to find some info there.
If you've never been, I highly recommend coming up for a visit. You can get good deals on JetBlue out of JFK to Burlington.

So you've read the brochure...
Just kidding, sorta. All of VT is like that except rent is higher than you want to pay. I'm guessing [for work] you will need to be close to/in Burlington, or in the upper valley(powered by Dartmouth). Find a job first then come on up.
