vermont has no monopoly of abhorrence of punishment, its a national disease, it starts in the home, then the school then welfare then the judicial system.
we simply cant bear punishment so we came up with confinement or incarceration. in the early stages its called time out. it is not working. decrminalize self defense, ban personal injury law suits if the injury occurrs in the commission of a crime and the jails will go empty.

An interesting US Supreme Court case is on the docket with the State of Vermont vs the Vermont Supreme Court. What is also impressive is that it has gained national attention with 40 state attorney's general, the National Governors Association, and numerous nationwide victim's rights groups also lined against our own state supreme court. In short, we have become frustrated with and fed up with the way our courts dismiss valid cases and this could hopefully reign in some of the excessive leniency concerning violent criminal cases. Kudos to Bennington County States Attorney Erica Marthage for getting the ball rolling and gaining national attention to get such support.

Why is Vermont so easy on pedophiles? Many of them, when they commit a felony, run there for safety. The laws need to be changed................

Last week, 56-year-old Gregory Viens of Fayston, Vermont pleaded no contest to unlawful trespass after a farm employee caught him having sexual relations with a cow on a farm in Moretown, Vermont. Allegedly, Viens has a history of having intercourse with cows, but no animal cruelty charges have stuck. The Times Argus reports that other farmers in the area, who wish to remain anonymous, have had trouble with Viens since 1985.
Viens was ordered to pay $601 in fines for his trespassing crime, with no penalty for having sex with the cow. Hey, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

my personal Favorite law in VT, is that even a felon can own a firearm. Granted only a muzzle loader, but still a firearm. As far as Laws being Lenient there, Yes they are Very. If a pedophile lives next door the police don't even need to inform you. It is not public record. Unless that has changed in the last year.

Because hyper-liberals who infect the judicial system throughout the U.S. are delusional and incessantly subscribe to the notion that violent criminals are "victims of the "man"....victims of the system"....which of course is B.S.....and this cheap cop-out non-argument means nothing to the true victims of violent crime....but the liberals do not care....they feel, FEEL the need to salve THEIR emotions ....their egos..

?
Aren't pedophiles typically prosecuted within the jurisdiction in which they committed their crime?
I was under the impression that if John Q. Pervert molests a child in NJ and flees, that he will be extradited to NJ when apprehended.

I think the reference is to reporting laws and laws about not living near a school etc. Barre was trying to pass some restrictions and not having much luck.

Both Barre and Rutland City have passed ordinances banning convicted sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of schools and public parks. This despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of sexual abusers target their own relatives and other children they already know. At least in the copious data I've seen, there is absolutely no correlation between sex offenders' residential proximity to schools or parks and the likelihood that children will be victims of sexual offenses.
