I think some people here think that just because they post some positive opinions about their town in Vermont on the City Data forums means that all of a sudden everyone from Manhattan or any other tony town is going to come to their town in specific, or Vermont in general, because they'll all suddenly "catch on." How silly.

And not being honest here just brings less credibility to these forums. I've already had to remind my boyfriend several times what a minority of people post on here and all of them have a strong opinion they want to tell, so not to listen most of the time.

I wish people would stop being so selfish and not post at all if they are just trying to preserve where they are, because like it or not, people are going to go where they want and I hope they aren't stupid enough to listen to your one or two comments about how something sucks, and they'll do it anyway. Good grief!

And by the way, this wasn't written in as negative a tone as it sounds, I really agree and I wish people could be as nice here as they are in real life in Vermont and in any other state!

My solution is to put a wall around the state and be careful who we let through the gates. So far the legislature hasn't taken my advice, unfortunately.

wow you should post in the NH boards then if you're looking for some positivity. They're blissfully enticed by the idea that NOBODY post anything negative about NH.. Cause its SUCH a beautiful state and the views are amazing and the people so nice *gag*.Evidently the views and nice people *gag* pay the bills :/ ..MONTHS after I stopped posting in there about the negative side of NH and they're still bring up how astonished they are that I hated the snow and cold as recent as today!.I learned real quick how wrong they were about that state and got the heck outta dodge .

Funny- There was a legislature who used to joke about putting a fence around the state and charging admission to the 'park'

Interesting post....while there may actually be people doing what you are inferring; I can tell you that every negative I posted was true, life experience...which is why I have since left the state.

Posts reflecting negative aspects are hardly intentioned "to keep people out" by selfish Vermonters. On the contrary, we very much need a certain level of growth and the infusion of new blood to make communities thrive. Life, no matter you are, does and will have negatives and only by acknowledging problems can you hope make life better. I know in tough times faith and hope are ever so important and can understand the desire to only reflect on the positive. As with any source of information, be it these boards, the media, etc, you are free to choose what to believe and what to disregard, but by reading what people post, be it good or bad, it provides food for thought to do some independent research into aspects which are important to you.
