Places like that only exist in fiction. Real small towns are a lot more complex than that. The pecking order of small towns can be very structured, and sometimes enforced through generations. Can you find small towns? Sure. Will they have a Mainstreet and a square? Maybe, but the local shopping is more likely to be in a shopping center at the next big town. Easy access to automobiles and good roads changed most small towns long before the Walmats and Targets.
