Vermont and loving it
Just hoping to talk to Vermont residents ar people thinking about moving to the GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE> It is sooooo beautiful here since moving here 2 years ago from Baltimore Maryland no noise like Planes , Firetrucks and most of all no TRAFFIC . I just wish I would have thought about moving here years ago so that my children would have learned the meaning of life/ how material things are not important and how helping your neighbor or not is a blessing. The fast pace life is for some but for those who love the mountains the nature and most of all people who truly care about their neighbors and friends who will let you out at an entrance or stop sign gosh yea I never hear the horns blow on cars while driving ha what a life.

Hi loriann, I hope the fall foliage is looking as pretty where you are as it is here in Orleans County. The consensus with the folks I've talked to is that it has never been any better than it is right now. All week the colors just kept getting brighter and I thought, yeah, this is peak, and the next day it would get even sharper. Simply amazing right now.
My wife and I are transplants too. We moved here in 86 from central NH. This is where we have made our lives and this is home for us. It's where we belong. Hasn't always been easy and it ain't perfect, but we feel we made the right choice and have stuck with it. We've also seen lots of folks come and go, but it sounds like you are finding many of the same qualities in life that we did. And that's great - Welcome to the forum!

Hiya Lorainn and S.P
Glad to hear you are both as happy with your move as I know I will be. Hopefully within a year . Ugh Er maybe 2 yet. Ive got a long story but lets just shorten it down to Ive been a Vermonter @ heart since I was 14 yrs old. I simply got stuck here in CT and now that the 2 oldest kiddies have graduated HS its time to get serious about joining your party
So a few weeks back my oldest daughter asked me when we are moving, I went through my long list of stuff to do first and she informed me " I hope you don't mind dad, my boyfriend and I are leaving oct 4."
She explains herself and it comes down to she never wants to get stuck and needs to go now before things change!
Im so happy for her right now you couldn't believe it.Although she is going to the other side of the state (Milton) from where we will be going (NEK) she is showing the strength and independents we have instilled in her without even knowing it and for that Im a proud father. I am a bit worried but know deep down she will be fine..
So anyway, save us a spot Im coming up for another drive through oct 18-21. this time looking at job opportunities in the local.
Enjoy the fall!

So, Loriann
where in vt are you? How do you find the job market, health care? housing still declining? Im wanting to move for the same reasons you expressed above. Example last night the police went screaming by my house @1:30 a.m then a firetruck and ambulance an hour or so later. 7:00 a.m there was a car laying on there horn. On my way to work pulling out of a gas station a car pulled in and stopped directly in front of me gesturing with her arms flailing and cel phone in one hand for me to back up even though she was entirely in the wrong.. Get to work and we have a special audit coming so all night 12 hours i bust my butt doing a job completely out of my job description. only for my stressed out boss to give me crap about a little bit of nothing.. Its so stressful here I dont even see the seasons changing. So talk to me.. save me a spot.

Considering a Move
Hello,
This is my first post on this site. I am an Arizona native but my wife and I lived in Nashua for about a year. We traveled through Vermont and loved it. We now have a 9mo. old and are considering a move to the Green Mountain State.
I am hoping that someone might have some advice. I am graduating this summer with a masters in education and a teaching certificate. I will be looking to teach high school. I am wondering what the job market and salary is like for teachers in Vermont. Likewise, I wonder if a teacher can afford to live in Vermont.

Hi everyone sorry for the delay I lost my dad and had to go to Baltimore what a terror the traffic the rude people. To try to answer the question jobs for teachers seem to be needed I do not know the salary the job market is not looking good but dollar wise the housing market is very cheap we have a few for sale I am in the Lunenburg area near Gilman 3-4 bedroom lots of land about 70-75 thousand most have garages and nice people. But like I said it is everywhere if you have some nest egg it can go a long way here there are no nearby malls I hate to shop I just got back from video taping a moose hunt in New Hampshire what a great experince. thanks for writing back take care

What a Moose Hunt
I recently had the greatest experience of my life video taping a moose hunt. The weather was great the Moose were on the loose my boyfriends cousin won the moose lottery in New Hampshire thats once a year a certain amount of residents get choosen for the big event, and oh boy it was. We started on last Sat and saw our first Cow Moose and no he did not want her he wanted a Bull Moose , Well on Weds there was no time to be pickey and he got a 565 pound Cow and it was beautiful. So now its over and untill next yr. I hope to just track from now on and take pics that will share. This is why I love the Great State of Vermont

Im sorry to hear of your loss!
The Moose Hunt sounds like fun. So how does your boyfriends cousin like NH? VT is better huh?
Man this economy stinks.. To move now I would be crazy, I hate saying that. But true..
I didnt make it up your way on the 18th my wife wasnt feeling well. So the lyndonville area has Northeast precision (machine shop) There is a few in the area that know of.. Apparently they dont pay much which doesnt really bother me to be honest. I can make a whole bunch of money here but it goes just as fast. I work close to 60 hrs a week and bring in 70k + machining. I hear the going rate is like 12. an hour there ( almost half as much) and --->layoffs are pretty common<---This does bother me.. I still have 2 more young ones. Maybe I should start thinking of finding a diff section of CT, more country like . And settle in for a bit longer.. Oh God what am I saying... somebody slap me Im haveing a nightmare. lol Maybe I can convince my wife to get a health care degree in the "mean" time . I wish I could ge up there more often to see some of them 70 k houses you speak of. From what I see looking at the MLS listings its a lot more comparable to CT housing now then it has ever been . We have like a zillion foreclosures here right now. Not a good time to sell, into that mess.
Enjoy!!
