Happens in NYC also, and Philly here where i live, blacks on black crime, blacks on whites, etc. the most henious ive seen was not the Texas killing, though that was heinous, but the shoots by a muslim John Lee Malvo black man indiscriminately murderering people by sniper fire. Or when i think of NYC i think of the Jones beach murders, the central park rapists all done across racist lines.

In small towns in Illinois, there is a very strong redneck contingent that is very racist. It seems worse in the southern half of the state. There are lots of people that really embrace the redneck lifestyle (right down to flying the confederate flag). Fortunately, most of these towns also have some fairly enlightened people with a little bit of education. But, I can tell you that if I was a minority, I would not step foot in alot of these places because if the rednecks don't get you, the cops will.

Some of the finest and most patriotic Americans I've ever know would surely be labeled rednecks. But they would give all for God and country.

i agree, i am proud to know a good many people who would be called Rednecks. they are good people and have always treated me, a black man, with utmost respect. I know many rednecks who are not racists and who i feel more comfortable with that the urban liberal elitist type or the ghetto black type.
I find the prejudice and bigotry everyone attaches to rednecks is more prevalent in those that hate based on class, behavior and appearance. there are poor whites in urban areas, poor blacks and hispanics in urban areas--the bigoted liberal types wouldnt dare attack them(out of guilt and fear), but they love to point the finger at the poor rural whites whom they have no contact with .
I heard alot of this bigotry at my Ivy League Univ in Rhode Island, and I heard it in so called enlighted places like NYC, Philadelphia and SF--as well as Europe and the suburbs around America.
I wonder if we tossed the Ghetto black term around as much as they did the Redneck type would the pc cops be out in force, pretty sure they would.

I don't think the majority of people are prejudice against blacks because of their color. I think people are against BAD blacks, whites, hispanic, any race.

Good post. For whatever reason there are still a few groups that can still be mocked-rural whites, Christians, and overweight people of all persuasions.

Funny how the enlightened ones who are so loud in condemning others--rather than minding their own business--often turn out to be the very people they like to point their fingers at.
I remember one of the (M.D.) residents who worked with us, in a deep-south hospital, told of his interviewing at various teaching hospitals for another residency.
He said that at one New England Ivy League college, the interviewer kinda whispered to him (there are none of them up here [referring to blacks]).
He was a very square [meaning straight up, competent] guy, my favorite resident of almost all I worked with. He was a good doc and a strong leader. He said that interview made up his mind he didn't need no damn Ivy League eddykayshin.
If all the loaded-with-bias-and-stereotype redneck cracks were made about any other group--other than smokers, Christians, or overweight people--you are right, the PC goon squads would be swarming like the roaches they are.
I know the side of the aisle that 95% of these remarks come from. I conclude that because rednecks embody much of what made America great--God, guns, guts--that are hated so by the intellectualoid world citizen types, this is the way they can express symbolically their hatred for the US.
That's my view, take it or leave it.

HOWEVER, there is one exception. Conservative blacks, women, gays, etc. Clarence Thomas. Sarah Palin.
They just hate patriots the most, that's all. Especially patriots who smoke, go to NASCAR races, and drink beer rather than $20-a-bottle wine with their pinkies extended.
Cheers!!

Or as someone recently said, those who cling to their guns and bibles. For shame!

And I've been in black and brown 'hoods where I was not safe, too. The terms "got a quarter, white boy?!" or "I'm going to cut you!" come to mind.
Just because there are racist redneck enclaves does not automatically mean that all rednecks are racists.
Flying the Confederate flag is, I believe, still protected by the First Amendment. And just because in your eyes it means "racist," does not mean that is what it means to all those who fly it.
I am sure to many elitists, those simple souls like myself who fly the American flag are looked upon as little people with primitive, nationalistic, jingoistic brains.
We could not be nearly so enlightened as the crush of "world citizen" overeducated and undersmarted Ivy League folks who are in charge in the DC-NYC corridor.
The Geithner-types who couldn't actually run a successful popcorn stand on their very best day.
