It's funny of the mention of the Shelburne Museum. I have been here two years and not been yet, depite always intending to. I hope to make the visit by fall especially since I don't live far. I don't want to make it a place to visit in a hurry should we decide to move in the future. This is what happened when I grew up in NYC. I must have passed the Empire State Building at 5th and 34th dozens of times and it was not until we were ready move out of the city that I actually took the ride to the top.

LOL. I was born and raised here and have only been twice - once for school way back when, and once a year or so ago when it was half price for Vermonters! I've only been to Ben & Jerrys 2x, and that was with out of state friends/relatives.

I was born and raised in NYC. Never made it to the Twin Towers before 9/11 (had the opportunity once, when I was young with my parents, but I was petrified of escalators so I declined to go). Been to the Empire State building once in 6th grade but I don't remember much of it. Have never been to the Statue of Liberty. Haven't stepped foot in a museum in probably 13 years.
Maybe when I move and come back as a tourist, I'll see a lot more of NYC!!!

I remember walking in Manhattan as a teenager (I think). I was with a friend, also a native New Yorker. A couple of British tourists approached and asked where the Empire State Building was.
Neither of us could tell them!
I learned that night that it is on 5th Avenue and 34th Street. (uh oh, is it East 34th or West 34th?) Does it go towards Madison Ave or 6th Avenue? Uh oh again.
I went to the World Trade Center for a training once, a long time before 9/11. It was on about the 102nd floor. Tower Two.
Had the training been held on the morning of 9/11/01, and I had come on time, I probably would have been killed.

Interesting....
Now, are there any other Vermonters out there who will tell us why they live in Vermont? I personally think that it is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
One other question: What kind of jobs are in Vermont, and how much is housing? Is it as expensive as a lot of the other places in the NE?

I live in VT because it's not like anyplace alse and because the things I value it has in abundance:
Beauty? Check.
Cultural activities and performing arts? Check.
Progressive values? Check.
Biking, walking, boating? Check.
Easy driving to 5 major destination ski areas? YEAH baby! (In Austin Powers accent)
Proximity to Montreal,(!) Quebec City,(!) Boston, NYC etc...Yesiree! (I just flew Burlington to Newark - Newark to London. Then Edinburgh to Newark, Newark to Burlington)
There are all kinds of jobs in Vermont. But the pay is lacking. Housing is expensive. So are property taxes.
...but the longer you wait, the more expensive housing is likely to be. Come now and save big! ;-)
My best friend is moving back from Seattle to Burlington. He's been hoping to for 2 decades. He'd have done it sooner, but life got in the way. He's pretty excited. Me too!

I would agree. If you want to come, come now! It's not going to get any cheaper to live here. I own a beautiful 12 acre homestead with 2 barns and a four bedroom home. 10 years ago I payed 100,000 for it. Now it's almost three times that price. I don't think I'll ever sell it even if I move out of state. What could be better than winters someplace warm and summers in Vermont?

Another great thing about living in Vermont is the way that the seasons play a huge role in everything ... from the festivals and how we celebrate, to our recreation, to how we slow down (way down) during the winter... our kids know when food is planted, how it grows, and when it should be harvested. Another special thing about vermont is how we celebrate local everything...artists, musicians, authors, etc... even the elementary schools focus on local talent when possible... it's not uncommon for the authors they study to pop into the school for a visit.
