I was driving up 100 from Londonderry to Ludlow when I noticed a small cape alongside the road. The cape itself was largely unremarkable, save for a filled wooden clothes dryer sitting at the bottom of the front steps. By it's side was a basket with socks hanging over the edges.
Behind the cape was a expansive mown yard which stretched on and on.
My first thought was "Why hang your laundry out to dry in front of your house?" followed by "I wouldn't want my neighbors seeing my undies!"
I am all for clotheslines and drying racks, but feel that some consideration should be given with regard to placement.
Clothesline full of undies out back -- good.
Clothesline full of undies out front -- bad.

It's time for The Champlain Valley Fair again.
...and the South End Art Hop, to mention just 2 out of dozens of autumn events I look forward to every year!

I was at the Vermont State Fair in Rutland on Friday night -- we had a blast. It was a toss up between that and the Champlain Valley Fair (Ted Nugent was playing Fri night.)
Rutland was closer, so Champlain Valley lost out this year.

Fairs are a great attraction for me and my wife. We never miss the Orleans County Fair, known locally as Barton Fair. I can't get enough of the antique tractor pull and the ox pulling events. Seems we always bump into people we haven't seen in a while. As fairs go these days it's a small one, but it's the local one and a very enjoyable place to be on a late summer day.
There's a saying that after the fair the weather changes, which means fall is just about here. And that's always been true!

Harry chickpea, Wow, the things you said about why live here are EXACTLY why I choose to live here. I live in Williston and I HATE IT. It's NOT Vermont. They have come in and pushed the locals out until it simply doesn't fit in anymore. There's nothing like driving down through the gulf and into the more remote towns, or up into the Kingdom. Shoot, Orange, Washington County, ..., you can find more of what Vermont used to be in a lot of places.
Anyway, I sure enjoyed your post.

My husband and I went to the Rutland Fair on Sunday. I really look forward to that Fair. We are going to try to make it to the Tunbridge Fair this year. That one is supposed to be good. I would have loved to see Ted Nugent!! He from our part of Town, isn't he?
One thing (or two) I miss so much at the Rutland State Fair is seeing those huge Holstein oxen that were there two years ago. Last year my friends came up to see them, but they weren't there. The owner said he sold them. I went out and bought two bull calves after I saw them. What a mistake that was!!!!

Nugent is from Detroit, lived in Michigan for a long time, and now lives in Texas. He is very involved in the NRA and bowhunting, among other things. Had a summer camp for kids in Mich for years, but don't know if it's still running.
