Housing in Vermont is more affordable now, because of the recession. Landlords have sometimes had trouble renting. I'm not sure if that is still going on, but you can check.
Would love to have you and your family here in Vermont!

Speaking of Renting... I met the most fascinating landlord last week. Owns a number of units in downtown Burlington, and tells his tenants when they are ready to buy, he's happy to give them encouragement and assistance. His tenants fill his appts for him on the way out.
I'm putting him at the top of my list of contacts for people seeking rentals.

You're welcome.
A landlord I know could not rent an apartment in a building he owns, so he had to cut the rent, after which he got a tenant.
I also heard (hearsay) that a rental agent in town was complaining that no one was renting.
I would guess that people have been forced by the economy to live with friends or relatives.
There are lots of homeless people in Brattleboro, BTW.
Prices are down here for homes and for apartments.
But I don't know how long this is going to last. It feels like economic recovery is on the horizon. Once the housing market recovers, prices will start going up again. But, of course, we never had the bubble here that we had in other places.
At the same time, I have a feeling (just a subjective feeling - don't make too much of it) that this area is growing. There are lots of transplants from New York and other places and I think there will be progressively more, especially if the job situation improves. So I think real estate will appreciate once things settle down. Now, I could be totally wrong on this, but I hope I'm not. Unless, of course, I don't find a place I like until after the prices start rising.
There are apartments on the market now, and lots of houses, too.
The Retreat is hiring, and, I learned today, so is the VA. There is a VA hospital in White River Junction and also one in Northampton, MA. There is a veterans' facility in Keene, and, next year, there will be one in Brattleboro. From what I heard today, there are mental health jobs. I was told they were looking for people.
If you really want to be in Vermont, keep looking. Don't give up. The job situation is, I think, significantly better than they were last time you wrote about it.
I made the move from New York and I'm very happy that I did.

We're sending some Autumn colour your way soon Arel. I went for a drive the other day, and there's just a touch of colour showing. I think the foliage is prettiest early... Enjoy!

Burlington seems to have been ranked (again) the best place in the nation to raise kids. Sadly, there's not much of a story, the online piece is pretty thin, but it's interesting to see the area continue to collect awards like this
