Marco's in South Burlington makes a very good pizza-and it is without a doubt the best deal in town. They claim to make LI style pizzas.
Rockys in Williston and Essex also claims either NY or LI style-very bad.
My favorite pizza is Good Times cafe in Hinesburg. A little expensive and not NY style, but delicious.
I can make due with the pizza here. Mexican food here is a crime though. Chinese situation just as bad.

Agreed.
Believe it or not, we have a Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant scheduled to open in Rutland by the end of the year. Hope it's better than most.

Nice to hear the pizza market could use a good shop. From what I've seen here in NJ, people are cutting back, however, we pick up those who stopped going to the fancy places and now they spend 20 or 30 bucks here instead of 120 in those fancy joints. I'm sure the ecomony will get worse before it gets better, but some day it'll turn around. If I do open a shop there, it would be a small operation, probably just Fri, Sat, and Sun. I would hate to bring my rat-race life style along with the move. Personally I'm tired of the 65+ hour work weeks.

Quikdraw...fyi...its LEGAL to pass on a double yellow in Vermont. Goes back to the old days when a lot of very slow moving farm vehicles were on the roads. I'm kinda surprised its still on the books.

The double line passing is interesting. Ok, here's a question that I forgot to ask: What do you pay for health insurance if your employer doesn't offer it? I know rates vary based on coverage and number of dependents, but can anyone provide a ballpark figure?

Depends on income. If you want a catastrophic coverage-type policy with high to very-high deductibles and low premium payments, MVP has this:
http://www.mvpvermont.com/pdf/viip/rates/Dec_Rates.pdf
The state now offers Catamount Health, and each person/family enrolling can choose whether MVP or Blue Cross Blue Shield will provide the coverage; I think the deductible for one adult is about $400/month:
http://hcr.vermont.gov/green_mountai...tamount_health
Depending on income, people may qualify to receiee Catamount Health with premium assistance (much lower premium):

Great information, thanks. Moving right along..(well not literally, yet anyway)
Are there any Court Reporters amongst us here? If so, we’d love to hear from you in regards to working in Vermont. (Wife’s occupation) We’ve been reading the VT forums for a while and there’s a wealth of information here thanks to all of you. If at times the questions seem never-ending, I apologize, but relocating a family out of choice and not necessity requires a lot of information (and planning). Ultimately, I think the vision I have of ‘The good life” resides in Vermont. With a little luck and a lot of planning we’ll be there permanently soon. Anyone have any ideas where we can stay for >$100 per night why we visit in Feb? I would love to take the family sledding while where there, so if you know of a good spot let me know!

Don't know any court reporters, though just had to hire one for a hearing we had at work. Google Court Reporter Associates in Burlington. Maybe they can give you some insight.
Hotels under $100...try the chain hotels in South Burlington or Williston. Comfort Inn, Best Western, Doubletree. Not sure what you'll find for under $100. If you have any question at all about specific hotels post back as I'm familiar with most of them (as is flu I believe).
Sledding? There is a great place out in Underhill (I think its called Casey's Hill). Rocky Ridge Golf Course on Route 116 in St. George (between South Burlington and Hinesburg) is another popular place. You'll need to bring your own sleds. You can find them at grocery stores, drug stores, hardware stores, etc.

We've actually met with Tim, the owner of Court Reporter Associates in August and we're meeting with him again in Feb. My wife has an offer on the table with them, but as a smart poster on this board once said, You don't want to move up to VT and find yourself laid off or without a job. With that thought, I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a back-up plan, a contingency so to speak.
I've added the sledding locations to our Feb itinerary. The kids (and me ) will love that, they've never done it, there just arn't any places left here anymore.
