Fair Haven has a green with three churches on various sides. Would that be the "village" type you are seeking?

Default Village Town

What I meany by village town is that is is real cute, quaint looking, you can walk to the grocery, the restaurants, the cute shops, the coffee house, etc. The population doesn't matter if the above is there.

Thanks
Connie

Lot's of VT is like that-heck even Chelsea fits that description. Unless you go for one of the bigger touristy towns ie Woodstock the shops/restaurants will probably wear thin pretty quick. Food in VT is generally good, not great, and not cheap(meals tax 9%). Remember if you live there you're not on vacation. Quaint general stores are where you shop on vacation, large supermarkets are where you shop when you are at home.

I think Brandon is quaint and a great little town to check out. My place is in Rochester, the other side of the mountain, and it's also "quaint" and the people are awesome. I suspect it may be an illusion but we find it both respectful and kind. Both these places have coffee houses, art, books, restaurants, grocery store and gas. The gym here in R is called walking or hiking the mountains.
You may want to visit a whole bunch of Vt. as we did when we were searching, because it's loaded with beauty and quaintness. You need what feels right by you, not others. Besides it's great fun looking.

I agree with Honeybear. Come visit. Stay a while and travel around from town to town. And if you find a place you really love, rent a house in town or stay at an Inn and see if you really would be happy there. I work in a town exactly like the one you describe and the quaintness wore off pretty quickly. In town we have all of the things you mention yet most of the residents do not shop, eat or partake of most of the quaint things here in town. There is a cute coffee and pastry shop within a stone's throw of where I work. I cannot afford to buy coffee and a croissant there.... so I crank up the Keurig coffee maker and eat my granola bar here in the office !

And yes, the general stores are where most of us pick up a quart of milk or the newspaper. But you don't find many people local doing their major grocery shopping there. These stores usually depend on tourists buying sweat shirts or mugs to supplement the local trade.

Brandon occurred to me, too. Also Putney.
