Would it be possible to share the results of your research? I live about 20 miles up the road and travel through Eden regularly. It doesn't appear to be a high crime area. It's a small town without industry, has three mom & pop stores, a modern k-8 school, a quiet little lake with an rv campground and some pretty mountain ridge lines. It's the proverbial middle-of-nowhere kind of place but just a 15 minute drive to Morrisville which keeps growing by leaps and bounds. Well, leaps and bounds by northeast kingdom standards. There was a fairly well publicized multiple murder a few years ago, but that was in Belvedere, the next town over. I'm guessing that the most likely crime to be committed in Eden would be to have your snow machine or 4 wheeler stolen.

Thanks for PM-ing me the Sperling data, leelunie. The figures show double the national average for those of you reading along. I can't say how the data was compiled, but I do read the local papers and Eden doesn't get many headlines. I did a search for my town too. We came in below the national average, but in my observations we have experienced considerably more (newsworthy) crime than Eden. I'm stumped. I still think Eden's a cool place, though, if you're considering a visit.

Eden has a population of a little over 1,000 folks. Most crime that happens in rural vermont is what is mentioned above. Also, some vandalism. As far as assaults and what not, 99% of the time it's domestic. With such a small populations, one or two yahoos are going to skew the results.
I would not think it's much of an issue. |

vter, you have it pegged. In a town that small, you walk over to the jerk who is causing problems, and flat out let him know that if he comes around your place causing problems, it is deer hunting season, and his underpants are whitetails.
Statistics only work when there are large numbers to manipulate. |
