Burlington Live Music Scene
Well, my husband's interview today went very very well and we will be hearing back later in the next two weeks about the job at ISG / IBM he's been offered.
That said, he is also a musician, and we are both fans of live music, so he wanted to know more about the live music scene in Vermont, Burlington in particular. We know about Phish and a few other bands that have come out of VT, but want to know more about what is currently going on. Do many acts (both small and larger venue, but not arena) come to Burlington? I figured we would have to drive to Montreal or something to catch the larger shows. More specifically, are there many Metal/harder rock bands in Burlington? He would like to find some people to jam with and perhaps start a band once we're settled.
Thanks!

Burlington does have a decent music scene for a town it's size. The biggest indoor venue would be Higher Ground in South Burlington. They host many local and national acts. Higher Ground: South Burlington, Vermont
For a complete listing of shows, the best place to go is to the Seven Days website. The Seven Days site is also a good place to look for people looking for mucisians, etc. Seven Days | Vermont's Independent Voice
You'll have to go to Montreal for the big name shows (most are held at the Bell Centre), though in the summer we get a few big names come through (Elton John was here this past summer). Centre Bell - Home
I know Champ 101.3 - Homepage (a local classic rock/rock station) keeps a good list of upcoming shows.

PS. I totally forgot to mention the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. They host occasional concerts...Saw Bruce Hornsby there and it was great. Flynn Center for the Performing Arts

Good post ThinkingThinking. I was wondering the same thing. I'm sure there's more hippie-funk jam bands per capita than anywhere else in the country, but I was wondering about the hard rock/metal scene myself. I'll be looking for some people to play with as well if we end up moving up there.

Sounds good. And it looks like Clutch is coming to Burlington, so I guess they do get some fairly big bands, or if not real big at least reeeeeally good.
