Default chilly forecast for next week

Next week the forecast for Tues/Wed(1/14) is for a high of -20F and a low of -40F. Any forecast a week ahead can change but if it comes true make sure you have a good battery and good anti-freeze in your car. Don't be shocked if a tire or two goes flat.

Keep a pencil thick stream of water running at all times in the tub and all sinks. Any sinks with a vanity below keep the doors open which helps to keep the pipes from freezing up.

What source had the forecast lows at -40F?
I checked the GFS model and it has showed lows between -10 and -20F for NH at about day 8-10. However, the models continually shift the core of the coldest air around because the arctic outbreak is still several days away.

I am actually looking forward to the cold because the coldest it has been in Merrimack County NH has been -3F so far this winter.

Weather channel is saying 23 degrees here for us. Low at night about 5.
I don't see these arctic temps!

A well respected local weather guy, Roger Hill, has been talking about it since yesterday on the radio. Personally I'm skeptical. Just a statement about the long range forecast is on his website.

Maybe it's wishful thinking on his part.

I wonder how well the resorts are doing this year? I guess they make their own snow if they don't get any.

Nothing like last year.

Huh? I visit his site fairly often (he has a great webcam page) and don't see this. Maybe he meant the temps on the slopes could be this low?

MTK1 is on a distinguished road
On a related note. The Vermont Agency of Transportation recently installed sophisticated weather stations and cameras along I-89 and other parts of VT. All of these can be accessed by the public through the AOT's road condition website www.511vt.com. It great to see what the higway looks like before heading out.

High-Tech Help for Vt. Roads

Williston, Vermont - January 6, 2009[/SIZE]

Five weather towers now line a 65-mile long corridor of Interstate 89.
Equipped with video cameras, those towers record everything from temperatures to wind speeds to relative humidity.

I think subzero lows are LIKELY after a week from now. The models show a very cold weather pattern setting up. I will go as far to say -20 to -25F lows will be a possibility for northern NH and VT.
