We were just up in the Springfield/Chester/Ludlow area and had no issue with our cell service We have Verizon as our carrier. I just made sure we updated our phone and roaming capabilities when we got there, *228.

My family has Verizon and we are off 11 in Chester/Andover. Service at the house is poor at best. Once out on the main roads it is vastly improved; however there is a dead zone on 11 about halfway between Chester & 1-91.

We were on 11 staying at the Motel in the Meadow. We were "roaming" but had service with good reception. I didn't note the dead zone while we out but that is good to know for the next time we are up. Is the dead zone on the section of road that takes you into Springfield? Chester Road? Chester is a beautiful town. Seems like a great sense of community. I would love to know more about the schools in the area if you wouldn't mind sending me a PM. Thanks!

I would definitely agree Verizon has the best coverage in Vermont. We were T-Mobile customers when I moved here, and I often had signal issues. Of course, it can depend on the phone as well.

My fingers typed before my brain. The dead zone is on the stretch of 103 between 91 and 11.
I have had a few drops on Chester Road (Chester to Springfield) but overall, it's not bad.
Perhaps I should add the caveat that I am dealing with a 2 year old phone which is due an upgrade. My son's phone is 6 months old and he had limited service at the house. On the other hand, I have to walk up to the road, stand by a particular tree and hope a red squirrel doesn't run past me and spoil my signal.

LOL! That is how the service is in a good chunk of our county down here in PA. If I stand on the corner of Church St. and Rt. 349, next to the stop sign, on a sunny day.... and so on. We have a fair share of red squirrels here too...but it is the grey squirrels the size of a house cat that you have to look out for down here

I'd be cautious on trusting completely what you hear until you can check it out yourself. Everyone told me "there's cell service here now" when I bought my place, but they were wrong. I bought in a dead zone -- which is very easy to do in Vermont.
When I hired some people to do tree removal, there were four people with cell phones and only one worked and he had to go out in a field and hunt for a spot. I learned from a man who operated a Unicell store that it also depends on what kind of phone you have, not only what network. Some phones are better than others.
I know the original poster's reason for asking has passed, but just wanted to chime in.

Does anybody in the Chester-Springfield-Gassetts area have Sprint service?
