You will probably ask "what humidity?" in VT, coming from FL. It's nothing like that. Maybe a couple of weeks each summer of VERY hot/humid weather but overall not too hot or humid.

My experience has been that southern Vermont has a few summer days which might be on par with the humidity I've encountered in Florida, but not the Floridian summer heat.

I'm a native South Floridian and I agree. Still, it depends on one's tolerance for heat & humidity. Mine is minimal to nil. So a Vermont day of 70 degrees or more if humidity is very high will knock me out and keep me huddled in the a/c exactly as a hotter Florida day would.

Whereas if it's drier, I can handle much more heat. When we were in Nevada and Utah, I remember feeling stunned upon learning that I'd been hiking for hours in temps pushing the upper 90s. Sure, I wished it were cooler, but I wasn't incapacitated as I am when it's humid.

I hear ya there.
Back west it often didn't really feel hot sometimes till it hit 100.
The humidity really makes a big difference.

Maybe a few days each summer are comparable to FL but it's not nearly as bad as FL most of the time. I'm just not a hot weather person, my tolerance for heat and humidity is low...

Well I'm reassured now. I was afraid I'd still be getting that "slap you in the face with a hot wet towel" feeling everyday still. I can deal with the heat and humidity but it seems to get worse every August.....have I mentioned I hate summers here? LOL

I flew into Orlando in July 1998 during the huge brush fires. I-95 had just reopened that morning, and I had to head to Daytona, and then into St John's County.

Stepping out of the ORL I experienced the 'slap you in the face with a hot, wet towel' sensation. I have NEVER, EVER experienced humidity that bad in VT. The mechanical door opened and I stepped from a pleasingly cool air conditioned terminal into what felt like an antechamber of hell's suana.

The drive north on I-95 from Daytona up into St John's was eerie, if not alien. Smoke wafted across the roadway, burned palms provided views of undamaged homes, and dead animals spotted the roadway. I saw my first (dead) wild boar on that trip.

To bring this full circle -- next time I complain about a cold VT morning, I will delve into the old memory banks and recall what FL in July felt like. May I never curse the cold again!

My granny was given an evacuation order that year as the smoke was so thick and blowing her direction (She lived in Daytona about 5 blocks north of the Race track) I'm stubborn enough that I won't complain about the cold when the heat and humidity are 2 strong reasons for moving

Vermont's summers are a pleasure. I grew up on Long Island and those are some brutal summers..

Here, not bad at all!

Deer flies can usually be brought down with a couple of hits from a .22 bullet. Always bring a shovel to bury them so they stay dead. Watch out for the winter deer flies. They have learned how to wear LL Bean down parkas.
