Vermont Summers can be a great escape for a Southerner. Burlington real estate seems to be expensive compared to the neighboring New York State areas...and I mean...Vermont is cool, but there isn't a big metropolitan economy nearby.

The trouble with the weather is that it's hard to get motivated to get out and 'do things' with the cold, snow, and ice.
You can have a 'to do' list and then wake up, see the grey conditions and just want to zone out (maybe it's the air pressure). There's very little aggression here to 'get up and go' and I feel like a lot of this is weather related (for me at least).

I agree with the motivation issue. March for sure and April as well can also seem to drag on and on with cold and snow/rain. Despite this you have to really make an effort not to let the weather alter your outside activities. For the most part you can dress for any weather and keep up some routine for exercise. Right about this time of year is when I have mentally sunk to my low point, but really look forward to those first true spring days. Right now I am still fortunate to have the option of working some extra days/hours while the weather is lousy and convert that to later off time, but because of this I am also less inclined to stay in a good exercise routine. A final point about the weather or perception of it, outside influences like the horrible economy and realizing that yes it is now plausible that many of us may in fact lose virtually all of retirement funds really induces more depression and because of that it is more important than ever to try and keep active for the sake of both your physical and mental health.

It's the winter clothing that gets me down after a while
I'm getting to the point where I want to put away my winter boots, but as I look out my office window the sky is gray and the snow is falling so I know I have no chance of doing that for a while.
I'm a tank-top, shorts and sandals type of woman. I hate heavy clothing, but my daily uniform from Nov. through April consists of fleece, sweaters, jeans and boots. It makes me feel kind of weighed down and frumpy.
I'm the mom of two young girls and it takes an extra five to 10 minutes to get them bundled up before school each day. My tiny mudroom is overflowing with stray mittens, hats, socks and of course, puddles of melting snow.
I'm looking forward to June when we can all slip on a pair of sandals and run out the door!

I was pretty happy down here South of Boston, snow was gone from sidewalks most fields were clear... We just got about a foot of snow uggh. Next couple of days are supposed to be cold hopefully after that we will get some cleansing warm rain and be back on track. We had some nice prespring weather for a good bit until today.

Before you know it, there will be no more stray mittens and such in that tiny mudroom. Take a moment to enjoy the the dripping little snow angels who are haphazardly tossing off their snow gear without a thought as to where their other mitten has landed.
The hands of the clock run much faster than those sandals out your door.

Drive the streets of any Vermont town after 7:00 PM on a January or February night and you'd think the town had a curfew, drive those same streets on a warn April, well maybe May, evening and the town has come alive with people out enjoying weather they haven't seen for six months. Yes you can dress for the cold but like LisaM said it gets very, very old by March. Yet there are people who love winter, whatever floats your boat.
