Default Tell me about Vermont

We are considering a relocation from the craziness of NJ to Vermont. We love the Stowe area but have also been told Chester, VT is nice. From what I've read property taxes are about the same in VT as NJ... just didn't think any state could have taxes as high as in NJ! Our home is assessed at 265K and taxes are $8,000.00 a year... is that about the same as VT? We enjoy winter sports and are ready to leave the Jersey shore beaches for summer hiking and kayaking. Has anyone relocated from NJ to VT and regretted it????
