Good jobs for VT:
1. Directing lost tourists on their way to Woodstock/SugarLoaf/wherever *non-paying*--can be fun if you give wrong advice, but I never do. Some local guy I knew told me to give them the wrong advice because 'it's fun!!'
2. Waving to tourists as they go by on I-89/I-91 *non-paying*
3. Housekeeping jobs ( maybe you will get $8/hour for this one) (a job you'd never do in any other place but it's a 'good job' here).
4. Posting all about life in Vermont as an ex-NYer (non paying but fun)
5. Being one of the countless people with a college degree working in the fascinating world of retail!
Good luck, Greenie...I've been looking forever...apparently there is some secret society where locals get hired. Anyone else, well, it's dumb luck or something. In a normal day and time there were jobs in the paper and you applied. Now????

Zero percent private sector job growth in VT for the last ten years. Best chance is if the local schools are hiring teacher aides. Or look for a state job working in human services. Your last thread asking the same question pops up at the bottom sorry you haven't found anything.

The job market is pretty poor. Countless people who do go to work each day are living with the fear they will be next in getting laid off. Vermont has just met the criteria to add another 13 weeks extended unemployment benefits on top of the previous 20 week extension which of course follows the initial 26 week period to draw benefits. It's a cyclical effect right now. Managers are are under the gun to contain or trim costs, folks are cutting back, retirement funds are being destroyed, and despite magic eight ball predictions that we just have to be near the bottom most people are very concerned that with all the elements in the mix we have the probability to drop much further. I guess all you can do is keep plugging away and with luck and timing you might score an opening.

To find a job, go where the tourists go
Here in Lamoille County, many jobs are generated by tourism in Stowe or Smuggler's Notch. Here are some common ones:
Housekeeper: Pays $8 to $12 per hour and some resorts will let you use their fitness centers as an employee bonus. Some resorts also hire "turn-down" attendants who fluff pillows, put wrapped chocolates on them, turn down the covers and make sure that the room is neat before guests return for the night. This is a fairly easy 2nd job if you have another 9-5 job.
Ski lift attendant: Pays $8-$10 an hour, depending on experience: It's a chilly, but fairly easy job. Just smile and pull down the safety bar. Be sure to say, "Great" when people ask you how conditions on the trails are. You will usually receive a free ski pass for every day you work. Return employees can get a seasons pass.
Server: Pays less than minimum wage, plus tips: The key is to get people to run up a huge bar tab. The bill will be higher, plus the customer will be buzzed and more likely to give a large tip. (Just be sure to call a cab if necessary).
Greeter: $8 per hour. Ski resorts higher greeters/ traffic controllers to stand out in the parking lot and greet guests. Sometimes greeters are asked to hand out surveys or free hot chocolate.
Sherpa: $12 an hour plus benefits and tips. The five-star hotel at Stowe hires sherpas to take care of their guests. You basically lead guests on back-country skiing expeditions in the winter or hikes in the summer/fall while carrying their gear and maybe a picnic lunch. If you're sure-footed and strong and like the outdoors it can be a fun gig.
Concierge: Usually $10 an hour or higher. High-end resorts in the Stowe area higher concierges to provide "5-star service." Duties may include stocking wet bars and fridges with guests' favorite snacks/beverages before they check in, arranging child care and spa treatments, and putting together fun vacation agendas. Be careful when accepting this job, however, because some of the resorts have really strict policies. One requires concierges to greet everyone within a five-foot radius. Another requires you to say, "What can I do to make your stay more pleasurable?" every time you cross paths with a guest.
As far as your other prospects are concerned: You're best chance of finding a landscaping job would be to hook up with a property management company since they cater to 2nd homeowners who tend to still have a little money. I don't know what type of lab jobs are available. You could call local hospitals to find out.
Good luck!

Flu--
Yep, that's pretty much all you can do, while the monthly 'donations' to the power and utilities companies eat up your savings.
