Default Looking for the liberal areas of Vermont

My husband and I are looking into fleeing the backwards idiots that have taken over Georgia. We're extremely liberal so we feel like we're drowning in Christian Coalition land.

We would like to find out where some of the more progressive areas of VT are so we can look into possibly relocating to the state.

Pretty much everywhere. VT is the least religious state in the US. There are conservatives here but they are on the run. Maybe not on the run, not in your face in anyway. Probably the opposite of what you are experiencing.

Windham County is probably the epicenter of all things liberal in Vermont.

Burlington. And no not all of VT is liberal. If that PETA member who did that nude protest in Brattleboro did in a rural part of the Northeast Kingdom I can assure you the response would have been a bit different.

Just beware, you get what you ask for. Few jobs, high taxes, overly burdensome regulation, and as far as I can tell the VT economy (if there is one) is going to keep sliding. The legislature is too busy with other things.

There's more to it than meets the eye. There are lots more jobs in GA than VT. And lower taxes. I think if the OP's reason for moving to VT is because they can't tolerate people with differing opinions, they're in for some shockers in VT when they realize the difficulties in living here. And then if they spend time outside the liberal cities/towns, they might be disappointed. If their main reason is because they hate the people around them over their beliefs, and they're leaving a decent job, and coming here without a job already lined up and with no clue as to the cost of living, well, I can't really think of anything good to say about that move!

My bet would be that Georgia's economy will recover long before Vermont's. vermont was one of the old conservative yankee states until about 25 - 30 years ago when the new generation of liberal out-of-staters like kunin, bernie sanders and Dean showed up. Now you have a state where most of the farms have closed, much of the industrial base is gone and vermont has so many costly regulations that few want to try to move a business into the state. But we have gay marriage, the highest tax rate in the country and one of the lowest per capita incomes. As our representative Peter Welch said yesterday, Vermont missed the casino economy of the past ten years, in laymans terms that translates to vermont never experienced the boom that the rest of the country saw. So while the rest of the country suffers withdrawal, it's business as usual in vermont. And now that they legislature has addressed the gay marriage issue they are deciding on what taxes to increase to battle the horrible economy and unemployment.

Well said. I am surprised they don't add Vermont to the rust belt...
