I myself as a person who likes rural areas like it. I have went down there few times. I have seen many people buy a place, restore it, do alright in the winter, then starve in spring and summer and portions of fall. Be financally backed. It may not be a good idea.

I think there is a lot of merit, these days with Bellows Falls; it was a rundown area and it is being revitalized; the central area is adorable, eclectic shops, and many homes are being rehabbed, updated, etc.
Saxtons River is very nice as well however I think there is more in BF.

Good to know. I read in the weekly local paper here in Brooklyn that a guy had his throat cut because he called a group of guys by the wrong gang name. Reportedly, he did so deliberately.
This happened, I think, within a mile of my home! And, as I posted before, my deli guy was shot to death in a robbery about 4 blocks from my home in November. I don't think that was gang-related, though.
Here in NYC we are very consious about crime and personal safety, even though the crime stats are down and NYC is considered a relatively safe city.
Is there gang activity in Vermont?

BF is ghetto, I agree with Macky.
You want an area near, but not too near a major highway or something like Rt. 4 which spans the state. Something near a ski resort (like macky said) but also with good trails for use during the fall/summer. Killington is a great choice if you can afford it.
