cell phone service in the middlebury area?
hi all,
my husband and i will be moving from california to the middlebury area in june and we are thrilled!
i've been lurking on this forum for a while as we waited to see if our move would actually happen, and i know that you guys have lots of great info to offer. i will likely have lots of questions as our move date approaches, but for now, i have a quick one: we're thinking of switching our cell service from verizon to at&t so that we can be on the same plan as our relatives here in cali, but wanted to find out how the coverage is there. we'll be living in weybridge, but i've been told that some areas like bristol have much better reception with at&t.
do any addison county folks have an opinion on this?
thanks so much -- we're so excited to be moving to your beautiful state!

Hmm, I live in Addison Cty and have Unicel (now AT&T) and I have good service. Next time I'm in Middlebury I'll have to check to see what my signal strenght is like. AT&T and Verizon are the biggest cell providers here in VT.

My BlackBerry with AT&T gets great service in Middlebury. My Unicel account, which I recently switched from, did as well.

I have T-Mobile and I was shocked to see when I visited the Burlington area a couple of weeks ago that T-Mobile doesn't seem to work at all (even digital roaming, but I have an older phone) in parts of the city itself. It seemed to work fine (without roaming) in parts of Colchester and Essex Junction, but was spottier in other areas that were quite suburban (some roaming or a so-so regular signal).

From what I understand, T-Mobile is slowly adding towers/antennas in the Burlington area.

hi guys -- thanks so much for the info!
we'd really like to switch to at&t so we can do in-network calls with our family; it will make the distance a little easier

Slightly off topic (depending on your cell provider), but are there any other Sprint subscribers in these parts? The network seemed slow, and the salesgirl at the Sprint kiosk at the UMall told me it's partly because of the mountains and partly because Vermont was pretty much last on Sprint's upgrade list. Any progress on adding towers and improving coverage?

I have Virgin Mobile, which uses Sprint towers. I haven't had much problem getting a signal, aside from some small towns between Montpelier and White River Junction. I hung onto my T-Mobile prepaid phone so I would have a working phone in Montreal.
