Default Sightseeing in VT

Hi all,

I am taking a 30 day motorcycle ride this August to visit the New England states. I'd appreciate any must-see places in your state. I've never been to Vermont but I am definitely ready.

Thanks

Now that we're not riding anymore, I notice there are tons of great websites for rides! I'll use them to show you where we liked to ride.

For twisties, sweepers, incredible views, and even places to stop and eat along the way, our favorite road was Vermont Route 100. Here's an article that describes a run we took frequently:

This is the southern stretch of the same road:

Route 100 - from Willington to Killington: Vermont Motorcycle Rides

Here it Route 100 from top to bottom, the Canadian border all the way to Massachusetts:

State Route 100, Vermont

We also loved this ride:

Rt 108 between Jeffersonville and Stowe "Smugglers Notch": Vermont Motorcycle Rides

We did this amazing loop only once -- very memorable:

There are so many great routes in VT to choose from. I also like Route 7A between Bennington and Manchester, with "must-do" stops at the Bennington Monument and the Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive.

Woodstock is also a beautiful little town and worth a stop, as well as the nearby Quechee Gorge.

If your route brings you closer to Burlington, you can't miss Mt. Philo or the Shelburne Museum.

Some of the best scenery is the northern half of the state, east of the Green Mountains; all the rolling hills, pastureland, etc. is just gorgeous. It's hard to choose just a few roads because they're all wonderful. I don't think you'll be disappointed no matter what you choose.

Route 100 is gorgeous. My favorite section is from Warren to Stockbridge.
Also, the "gap" roads would be fun on a motorcycle. As Sheryl mentioned, 108 through Smuggler's Notch should be a must. Also, Route 17 (Appalacian Gap) between Bristol and Waitsfield, Lincoln Gap (between Lincoln and Warren-part dirt) and Route 125 (Middlebury Gap) between East Middlebury and Hancock are all fun and beautiful roads.
Have a great trip!

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to be hard picking what roads and areas to visit when I'm there.

I agree, Route 100; Woodstock area and Quechee Gorge; depending on when you will be coming through, you might want to take Route106 from Reading into So. Woodstock and stop at the Green Mountain Horse Association, especially over the weekend. Well-known horse association and watching people riding on those gorgeous horses is certainly worth a stop.

Go through Killington/Pico.

Another beautiful area is Middlebury.

Have fun!

Duff in VT is on a distinguished road
We had friends up from Louisiana in Oct. and although we are not motorcycle riders, we toured around and the things they loved best were Quechee Gorge and a visit to glass blowing at Simon Pearce, Woodstock and the covered bridges in that area. We did not go over them as time was short, but the "gaps" above would be a must if on motorcycles.

Flashback is on a distinguished road
The Inn at the Long Trail is a great stop on Rt4 east of Rutland. Lots of atmosphere at this Irish pub, restaurant, motel. In the summer you get to rub shoulders with Appalachian Trail thru hikers as they walk from Georgia to Maine.
