Default Vermont has highest state and local tax burden

Reported by WCAX-TV

"The tax burden nationwide hit an all-time high this year -- and Vermonters are bearing the heaviest load. The annual study by the Tax Foundation finds that on average Vermonters pay 14-point-one percent of their income for state and local taxes -- in addition to their federal taxes. Maine is just behind at 14-percent."

After Federal taxes are factored in, Connecticut pays more taxes and Vermont drops to #5. Understand that the figures are averages, and not every person pays the same amount or percentage of taxes.

Still, add the cost of heat, and the shorter lives of cars due to salted roads, and you can see how Vermont can be a very expensive place to live.

The local tax for my neighborhood just jumped to 3000.00 a year !!
We got slammed with Bu$h congress / Katrina payback-manditory
flood insurance scam even though we are 30ft above Otter Creek and
1/2 acre away.......
It just cost me 359.00 to register my car.
Heat...450.00 a month.

I cant understand why people here call the Pols 'socialist'.
If this were in fact Socialist, we would be able to keep more
of what we earn. Between the appropriately named Bu$h, 'BackDoor'
tax on the middle class and VT's own version of legal usary, we
OWE money to the IRS this year !!! How can this be ?!?!
We cannot afford to live here but we -still- OWE !!!!
I made as much money now as I did in 1985 as a kid. I got a refund
check for about 2000.00 every year back then, too.....
1/3 of every non-liveable wage check to VT and Fed.
Great system.
