gotta love it
In the 20's in the morning a couple of days ago, today in the 80's. Gotta love spring in Vermont.
Things are really looking green. Took alittle drive on some of Vermont's "NO FREAKING ROADS worth anything" driving thru some Vermont's nicest and "depressing" villages and almost stopped to hang myself for nary a Target store to be found. What to do this holiday weekend? Parties, Music, town festivities and parades, canoeing/kayaking, go for a hike. Open art studio event this weekend over here in the Mad River Valley. There is "nothing, nothing to do" in Vermont.

LOL. We're doing the art thing too....it's actually statewide. Welcome to Vermont Crafts Council
We're also going to go to Burlington tomorrow and walk around and go out to lunch. Monday is the big parade in Vergennes.
Though I must admit I do wish we had a Target

The farmer's markets are open (Saturday) so that's a good thing to do. Farm stands are slowly getting in herbs, plants.

Farmers markets are, perhaps, my favorite Vermont joy.
As we do each year, we bought a CSA* share in a Dutchess Farm of Castleton for the season. Share distribution started two weeks ago and we returned home with a bounty of gorgeous, delicious produce. Ate it all up. Been doing so ever since.
Yesterday's lunch included these locally-grown yummies: red chard, onions, potatoes, purple & red radishes, and the most succulent red-leaf and green-leaf lettuces. Mmmmmm!
Tomorrow it's time once again to pick up our share at the Rutland Farmers Market. A treasured Saturday ritual.
* CSA = Community Supported Agriculture. More here.

I believe the Queen City Marathon takes place tomorrow. It usually brings about 26,000 people to town, according to a report I heard on VPR yesterday. I would imagine it will be a nightmare to find parking, although lots of fun to watch the runners and have a picnic on the Waterfront.

I won't be at the marathon this year, but like the cows returning to pasture, the yard sales are returning to the lawns and garages of the NEK. As soon as I finish my coffee I'm outta here..

It's not the fact "there is nothing" to do. It just seem the things to do in Vermont appeals to certain demographic(s).
It would be nice to have the ability to choose shopping at Target or at Mom & Pop's Corner Store or to see the that upcoming local band or the world renowned "stadium act". Sadly in Vermont, there are very few choices for the "big city" stuff, that MANY people want. That is why there is "nothing to do".

I'm so excited about my Memorial Day weekend plans
I've been wanted to landcape around my house since we built it seven years ago. But money and lack of time have always prevented us from doing so.
Last week we had a huge delivery of topsoil, which we've spread in front of and alongside our house. This weekend comes the fun part---we're going to buy a lot of shrubs and perennials and plant them. Then, we'll put in our organic vegetable garden, which is usually well underway by now.
Once everything is planted I'm going to order some rocks to create a pathway and some stone steps leading up to the front porch. I feel like my house has been like a cake without icing since we moved in. Now, it will finally feel finished although I'm still hoping my dh will be inspired to build a patio and fire pit.

That's why I like living on the border of NH. I can go to 'real stores' when I need to and also support my local vegetable stand/farms. I also can be in MA in less than 2 hours if I need a big, big store fix. I didn't realize it (MA) was so close because when we last drove up 91 that far we were just moving to the area. When I went back to NY in April I was able to get a better handle on where things are.

I'm going to a circus performance on Saturday night.
iBrattleboro.com - iBrattleboro.com Event
There's almost always stuff to do in Brattleboro.
But some would argue that Brattleboro isn't really Vermont.
